Re: CHECK THIS MOVIE OUT GUYS

June 30, 2008 by briesansotta

Saw the movie - but too dark for me. I'd like, just once, for people to talk out their problems and come to an agreement. But, I guess it's more fun for a lot of death and darkness.

How many records can you convert at one time? I have so many 45's and 78's that I would be there for years doing it.

Yep, easy to follow you in FriendFeed. But Twitter is overcapacity a lot.

Re: Contest Winners

Great, will check it out - I have to go to the Outer Banks this weekend. Just filled up - 25 gals at $99.14.

Here in No. Virginia, we are not quite at $4 a gal. yet. But, the price goes up at least one penny per day. I think speculators and those that want to force us to drill off FL and CA and in the Artic Wildlife Refuge area are behind the scenes in this OBscene price gouge.

I feel guilty all the time because my friends are online via phone, laptop all the time. But, not me. Yet, I DO have a twitter acct...

Re: Toddism of the week

May 28, 2008 by briesansotta

All I know is that Todd's primary and secondary school English teachers are probably just shaking their heads now. If Todd had had nuns for teachers, he would STILL have red hands from getting smacked every time he used an incorrect tense. I know about this! The Penguins never let you slide...

Re: Show Suggestions

I like interviews - but only short ones. IMHO these people interviewed give you 10% real info and 90% hype or "fluff". That is, unless you have strong questions to pose to them - and they actually answer them with real content.

Re: Show Suggestions

Yes, maybe Todd could have a contest where users suggest just one app and we vote on the one we think most useful. Meanwhile, Todd could link to one of the suggested apps each podcast.

Thanks, I see the link is back to Todd's comments. Julie, at http://the-gadgeteer.com just reviewed a solar panet battery charger (small). But, I don't think that one works very well...

Re: Windows Vista Resistors

May 15, 2008 by briesansotta

My US Gov Agency thought, at first, that they would introduce Vista. We have common workstation images on all our systems, tailored a bit for organizational or individual needs. However, the Vista testing so far has shown that we will have a long wait before that happens. We are all on XP.

One of my systems at work is a Dell 600, badly in need of a refresh. That won't even take Vista.

Solar Panels

May 13, 2008 by briesansotta

In today's GNC podcast, #373, Todd gave a link to commercial solar panels which were installed in 34 minutes. Now, from the comments under the vid, someone said that it cost about $700 (a panel - and this was done on a flat roof ?)- and that he needed the cost to get down to about $200.

I would like to eventually have some kind of solar power installation. But, also can't afford it now.

If anyone else is interested in this, do you have any ideas?

Re: Security Systems

May 12, 2008 by briesansotta

Yes, I set up my own camera monitoring system, also. You can buy inexpensive full-time web monitoring software/website. Again, as you say, it requires your pc/laptop to be "on" while you are away. But, once, when I was in NC, I went online to monitor the viewing web log and saw that the pet sitter had not come one day. I got on the phone fast!

Re: Security Systems

I had an outside alarm - which was LOUD, when I lived in Wash. DC a few blocks north of Union Station. It deterred 3 attempts at break-ins just by the noise - that was not a monitored system.

My current system IS monitored. I had the main unit of the system sitting on my countertop on day - cleaning the wall it usually hung on. A cat walked on the system and hit the panic button. The police showed up within 7 minutes. I had to show my ID and explain what happened. I didn't even realize that button meant NO calls to me before dispatching he police.

Todd mentioned this system which has cameras (mine does not - I had to set up my own around the house). Someone emailed him about that company - said he used to work for them.

Security Systems

May 9, 2008 by briesansotta

Todd did not talk about all the security system info he got from listeners. I, for one, would like to know more... Like, the whylie? or ylife? system - what is that?
